Next Generation of Housing

Birmingham Housing Week takes place between 5th - 9th February 2024 and is a chance for young people from Birmingham to get involved in thinking about and planning the future of housing in our city.

Young people are the beating heart of our region and this event is designed to open the doors to them to the processes that decide and deliver what houses in Birmingham will look like in their lifetimes.

You will be able to get involved through a series of events and activities taking place as part of Birmingham Housing Week, in collaboration with Birmingham City Council, Lovell Partnerships and MOBIE. For more information, please send an email to BHW@social.co.uk.

The 'Think Circular' Challenge

TV presenter and architect George Clarke (The Restoration Man, George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces) is now LIVE! This is a challenge for secondary school across Birmingham to design the homes of the future, with a focus on innovation and sustainability.

The theme of this Birmingham challenge is the ‘circular economy’, with a focus on zero carbon and how to construct homes more sustainably. The circular economy has three key principles - eliminating waste and pollution, recycling materials and products and regenerating nature.

Students can apply these principles to their designs through:

- Designing out waste
- Designing for adaptability
- Material selection, re-use, recycling, renewables
- Designing for wildlife, nature and biodiversity
- Designing for deconstruction

If your school would like more information and to take part, please contact us.

We want to hear from you about what will make Birmingham Housing Week a success, so why not get in touch today with your ideas and feedback?
